Research and development of contemporary design approaches, drawing on aspects of Afghan culture and a modern Australian experience.
Artist Aslam Akram has worked in collaboration with landscape architect Cassandra Chilton and Hassel Architects.
The project is part of the redesign of central Dandenong currently being undertaken by Places Victoria. Visual art, design and relational practices have been combined to explore the unique possibilities that are generated as new and emerging communities contribute to our understanding and experience of contemporary Australia.
The project explores new forms of social interaction and small enterprise development through object making and place design linked to historic practices and the reimagining of apparently familiar forms and concepts.
Researchers: Aslam Akram and Cassandra Chilton.
Coordinating curator: Geoff Hogg.
